What a week it was for Mexicans in Europe.

Three matches, three victories. 

The opening two rounds of the Concacaf Nations League are in the rearview mirror, and when action resumes we will see the likes of Mexico, the U.S., Costa Rica, and Honduras join the competition. For many of the region’s top players, next up is a healthy serving of UEFA Champions League fixtures beginning Tuesday.

Five thousand, four hundred and forty-nine miles west of Turin, Italy, in the 100-degree summer heat of Austin, Texas, I see something I’ve never seen before in this city: multiple Juventus jerseys in a single day. There’s a guy at a downtown coffee shop reading a book, his back against the concrete wall of the bottom floor of a skyscraper; I can’t make out the title of the book, but I can see the highlighter-yellow double-J of the Juve 2018-19 third kits. Hours later walking on a sidewalk, I see a guy on a scooter zoom by in a 2016-17 home kit. 

Much has changed at Juventus this summer, the departure of coach Max Allegri seeing the Italian giants ushering in something of a revolution as Maurizio Sarri prepares for his first campaign at the helm. The former Chelsea boss will have no shortage of help as a number of new faces have joined Cristiano Ronaldo and company in the Bianconeri squad, the club working hard to bring in the likes of Aaron Ramsey, Adrien Rabiot, and Matthijs de Ligt.

A year after Portuguese megastar Cristiano Ronaldo ended Juventus’ Champions League run, 19-year-old Matthijs de Ligt did the same thing, his powerful header sending Ajax through at the expense of the Bianconeri.

On Sunday the rumors finally became official: Maurizio Sarri is the new Juventus coach.

Thursday morning’s edition of Italian sports newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport offered some advice as to how to beat reigning champions Juventus. The Old Lady may have crashed out of Europe in midweek, but they have won the last seven consecutive Serie A titles — and will likely add an eighth this weekend. 

Twitter is, among other things, a place to meet people.

Federico Chiesa is a hot name on the transfer market — partly to do with his famous surname, but mostly to do with his incredible ability at just 21 years old. The Fiorentina star has been linked with moves away from the club for almost as long as he has been in the first team, and those rumors took another step forward in Wednesday morning’s edition of Italian sports newspaper Corriere dello Sport.
