Video Review, Luciano Acosta's Swagger & More From D.C. United's Win

D.C. United finally got back to their winning ways at Audi Field on Saturday night, defeating the Columbus Crew 3-1. Of course, the big story from the game was referee Ted Unkel chalking off a goal for Columbus in the first half, calling a foul on Wil Trapp in the lead-up to the goal that unsurprisingly caught the ire of Crew head coach Caleb Porter. But there was still 75 minutes to play after that decision, and United were the better side for the rest of the game.

D.C. United Do The Double Over The Columbus Crew, Winning 3-1

A week after a video review went against them, D.C. United benefited from two reviews in the first half on Saturday night, as the Black-and-Red defeated the Columbus Crew 3-1 at Audi Field in Washington, D.C. The first review took away a Crew goal from Pedro Santos before Luciano Acosta scored his third goal of the season to give United their first home goal since March 16.

Chameleon Arriola Spent April Playing Various Positions For D.C. United

D.C. United may not be reaching the type of offensive heights they’d like to so far in 2019, but there’s plenty to be proud from the first two months of the season as they currently sit level on points with the Philadelphia Union and Montreal Impact at the top of the Eastern Conference. Injury issues at the outside back positions have forced coach Ben Olsen to move away from his preferred 4-2-3-1 formation to a 3-4-3 and move several players around, but the glass is more than half full in his eyes.

D.C. United Look To Get Back To Winning Ways Hosting Columbus Crew

D.C. United return to Audi Field on Saturday to take on the Columbus Crew for the second time in ten days. Their Eastern Conference foes provided a stiff test in the last encounter, but a Wayne Rooney free kick was enough to secure United’s first win at MAPFRE Stadium since 2007. Their second and final meeting this season is set to kickoff at 8 pm ET and will be broadcast on FloFC for DMV viewers.

Olsen, D.C. United Test New Formation Which Could Help Down The Road

Like acing a perfectly cooked gumbo, the 3-4-3 is an incredibly tricky task to master. Again like gumbo — whether that’s a chicken-and-sausage variety or one incorporating a more shellfish-forward recipe with crayfish, shrimp, crab, etc. — the 3-4-3 has a ton of ingredients needed to make the final product worth the effort, and it also needs a good deal of simmering to get just right.

D.C. United Acquire Former FC Dallas Defender Marquinhos Pedroso

D.C. United announced on Friday afternoon that the club had acquired Brazilian left back Marquinhos Pedroso off of waivers after FC Dallas let him go. To go along with this deal, United also sent Dallas their 2020 first round pick in the MLS SuperDraft while receiving $100,000 in general allocation money.

Scouting The Columbus Crew Ahead Of D.C. United Rematch At Audi Field

It was just over a week ago when D.C. United headed to Ohio midweek to face off against the Columbus Crew. Both teams were coming off weekend losses, and the Black-and-Red won a narrow 1-0 game thanks to a free kick goal from Wayne Rooney. In the zany MLS schedule, the two teams will play again this weekend, the first meeting at Audi Field since the Crew knocked United out of last year's playoffs in penalty kicks.

D.C. United Midfielder Canouse Nearing Return After Short Knee Layoff

During a tough run during April, D.C. United had to deal with a rash of injuries, most notably at both outside back positions. Injuries to three defenders forced players to play in unfamiliar roles, while head coach Ben Olsen also opted to switch formations to cover for the lack of options at left and right back. At the same time, Russell Canouse has also missed the past three games due to an MCL sprain.
