A 90-minute weather delay threw a wrench in a fast start for the United States, but Gregg Berhalter's side advanced to the Gold Cup Final with a 3-1 win over Jamaica on Wednesday night in Nashville. Weston McKennie scored before the delay that started in the 16th minute and Christian Pulisic took advantage of two rebounds in the second half to ensure the first U.S.-Mexico final since 2011. 

“Survive and advance,” so the saying goes.

During 180 minutes of their two-legged Coppa Italia semifinal, AC Milan and Lazio mustered only one goal between them. While a strike from Joaquin Correa in the 58th minute of the second leg was enough to see the Biancocelesti through to the final on May 15, the other tie couldn’t have been more different.

The first leg of the Coppa Italia semifinal between Fiorentina and Atalanta set itself up to be a thriller even before the two teams kicked off in Florence on Wednesday evening.

On Friday last week, representatives from Fiorentina’s Curva Fiesole announced that they would mark the one year anniversary of the tragic death of Davide Astori during the first leg of the Coppa Italia semifinal versus Atalanta on Wednesday, Feb. 27.

As Fiorentina announced an open training session for supporters at their Stadio Artemio Franchi the day before their Coppa Italia semifinal versus Atalanta, the club’s Ultras mobilized. Already having planned a spectacular full-stadium choreography to mark one year since the tragic loss of their captain Davide Astori during the tie, the Viola faithful saw this as an opportunity to show their unwavering support for the team. 

While both have ambitions of finishing in Serie A’s top four and thus securing a return to the Champions League, Lazio and A.C. Milan will put those hopes aside on Tuesday in hope of securing some silverware. Juventus—who have won this competition for the last four seasons—being eliminated in the last round has opened up the Coppa Italia to the remaining teams and these two will look to take a step closer to the trophy at Rome’s Stadio Olimpico.
