With the normal round of games plus a full midweek slate in Serie A, there was plenty happening in the Italian top flight over the last seven days. Let “10 Things” get you bang up to date with the most important news and noteworthy incidents from the peninsula.

This summer has seen a raft of star signings arrive at new homes in Serie A, the excitement palpable as Italian clubs unveiled their latest big-name acquisition. Radja Nainggolan has returned to Cagliari, while his international teammate Romelu Lukaku left Manchester United to join Inter Milan, and he will be joined there by former Atletico Madrid captain Diego Godin.

Five thousand, four hundred and forty-nine miles west of Turin, Italy, in the 100-degree summer heat of Austin, Texas, I see something I’ve never seen before in this city: multiple Juventus jerseys in a single day. There’s a guy at a downtown coffee shop reading a book, his back against the concrete wall of the bottom floor of a skyscraper; I can’t make out the title of the book, but I can see the highlighter-yellow double-J of the Juve 2018-19 third kits. Hours later walking on a sidewalk, I see a guy on a scooter zoom by in a 2016-17 home kit. 

Much has changed at Juventus this summer, the departure of coach Max Allegri seeing the Italian giants ushering in something of a revolution as Maurizio Sarri prepares for his first campaign at the helm. The former Chelsea boss will have no shortage of help as a number of new faces have joined Cristiano Ronaldo and company in the Bianconeri squad, the club working hard to bring in the likes of Aaron Ramsey, Adrien Rabiot, and Matthijs de Ligt.

The 2018-19 Seria A season was filled with outstanding individual campaigns, with veteran Sampdoria striker Fabio Quagliarella arguably top of a very distinguished list. The 36-year-old enjoyed perhaps the best 12 months of his career, recording a personal best tally of 26 goals that saw him become the division’s leading marksman for the first time. 

Following what seems like an eternal wait for Italian football action to resume, the powers that be have announced the structure for the Coppa Italia in 2019-20. Supporters are still waiting for an announcement of the league fixtures; however, there is some news at least in terms of knockout football for the forthcoming campaign.

During 180 minutes of their two-legged Coppa Italia semifinal, AC Milan and Lazio mustered only one goal between them.
