WEEKLY AWARDS

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Faith Slimmer, Charleston
Sophomore | Forward | Petersburg, N.J. / Ocean City
Slimmer was one of six goal scorers for Charleston as the Cougars opened 2022 with back-to-back 3-0 victories over Alabama A&M and Coastal Carolina. The sophomore from South Jersey assisted on three of the other five Charleston goals on the weekend to help the Cougars to a +6 scoring margin through two contests – the best mark in program history.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Cassie Coster, Monmouth
Sophomore | Goalkeeper | Poughquag, N.Y. / Arlington
Coster made an immediate impact in her first weekend in a Monmouth uniform and the Hawks’ first two contests as a CAA member. The sophomore from New York played all 180 minutes in goal for the Hawks and produced two clean sheets in 3-0 wins over Lehigh and UAlbany. Coster stopped all nine shots on goal, all of which came in Sunday’s victory over the Great Danes.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Ivey Crain, William & Mary
Freshman | Forward | Milton, Ga. / Pinecrest Academy
Crain struck twice in 86 seconds as part of William & Mary’s three-goal first half on Thursday against Virginia Tech. The freshman from Georgia gave the Tribe a 3-2 lead with the pair of tallies and W&M led the visitors from the ACC for 53 minutes despite the Hokies’ 24-7 shot advantage in the contest.

NEWS AND NOTES

UNO, DOS, TRES, CATORCE

CAA teams went 14-5-2 in the opening weekend of the 2022 season.

Charleston, Drexel, Monmouth, and Stony Brook - the latter two conference newcomers - won twice, while Delaware, Elon, and Hofstra were also undefeated.

Ten teams won at least once on the weekend.

BUZZER-BEATER

Stony Brook’s Hannah Maracina scored the game-winning goal as time expired in her collegiate debut to give the Seawolves a 2-1 victory over Fordham on Thursday night

The goal at 90:00 earned the No. 2 spot on the SportsCenter Top 10 and had been viewed over 110,000 times across the Stony Brook, CAA, and NCAA Instagram accounts as of Monday morning.

PROGNOSTICATIONS

UNCW received seven of 12 first-place votes in the CAA preseason coaches poll, while Hofstra collected four and Monmouth earned one.

The Seahawks earned the regular season title last year, the Pride captured the CAA Championship, and the Hawks grabbed the MAAC crown.

Northeastern, which advanced to the conference final last November, was voted third ahead of Monmouth.

GREAT EIGHT

Eight teams will qualify for the CAA Championship in 2022 with the quarterfinals hosted by the No. 1 and No. 2 seeds.

The top remaining seed will host the conference title game in the first weekend of November.

DRAFT PARTY

Three CAA seniors - Hofstra’s Lucy Shepherd (Washington) and Miri Taylor (Angel City) and UNCW’s Audrey Harding (Washington) - were selected in last winter’s NWSL Draft.

The three CAA selections were tied for the most of any non-Power 5 conference.
