NEWS AND NOTES

CROWDED TABLE

Through two weeks of CAA play, there could not be much less separation throughout the conference standings.

No position in the top 10 in the league is more than one point clear of the team behind them, while the fourth-place team (William & Mary) is three points behind the first-place team (Towson).

The top four teams - Towson, Hofstra, Northeastern, and William & Mary - are still undefated in league play, along with Monmouth, who is 1-0-1 through two CAA contests.

WIN, DRAW, OR... NOPE

Three CAA teams - William & Mary, Hofstra, and Northeastern - enter the week on undefeated streaks of five or more games.

William & Mary (5-0-4) is one of 19 remaining undefeated teams in the nation, Hofstra’s five-game winning streak ranks fifth nationally, and Northeastern has not lost in its last six matches.

POWERING UP

CAA teams picked up a pair of wins over Power 5 opponents in the opening week. Delaware blanked Syracuse, 1-0, in Newark with Raychel Speicher scoring the game-winner. Hofstra followed with a 1-0 win at Rutgers thanks to a late goal by Olivia Pearse.

The win over an ACC opponent was the CAA’s first since Hofstra over Boston College in 2020-21, while the victory over the Big Ten was the league’s first since Drexel beat Maryland in 2018.

MS. WORLDWIDE

CAA programs were well-represented at this summer’s FIFA World Cup.

UNCW alum Katrina Guillou was part of the Philippines’ first team to play in the World Cup, fellow Seahawk Sydney Schneider suited up as a goalkeeper for Jamaica, and Hofstra’s Diane Caldwell represented Ireland.

TEAM NOTES

Just four Campbell players - Amber Liston, Olivia Neal, Cazzi Norgren, and Riley Terrill - have started all nine games this year.

Savannah Barron made a season-high six saves for Charleston on Sunday.

Delaware has played 20+ players in each of its last three games.

Annalena O’Reilly’s five goals for Drexel this fall are tied for second in the CAA.

Katie Lowe has played all but three minutes for Elon so far this year.

Alexis Deveaux has made a nation-leading 91 saves for Hampton this season.

Hofstra’s five-game winning streak ranks fifth in the nation and is the Pride’s longest since rattling off nine in a row in 2021.

Monmouth’s Loren Gehret (1.20) and Liza Suydam (1.17) are the CAA’s top two freshmen in points per game.

UNCW scored seven goals for the first time since Aug. 21, 2016 on Thursday.

Northeastern’s five goals last weekend came from five different players

Stony Brook is 6-3-6 in their last 15 matches since starting a run last October to close league play on a five-match unbeaten streak.

Nia Christopher broke Emily Banes’ Towson program record with her 31st and 32nd career goals on Sunday.

William & Mary is one of 19 remaining teams nationally without a loss in 2023.
